Mahesh Bhatt has also done his bit, by lending his voice for a few scenes in the film. They even placed a statue that resembled the signature image of the couple hiding under the jacket inside various theatres. The makers launched Aashiqui 2 jackets, as seen in the poster of the film, to create a buzz. That’s when producer Mahesh Bhatt went on record, saying, “What was unique about Abhimaan was a talented successful male artiste discovering a simple but talented village girl and then falling in love with her, the resemblance to Aashiqui 2 ends there.” Within days of the trailer being uploaded online, the makers started battling reports of Aashiqui 2’s story being similar to Abhimaan (1973). The music hasn’t created an earth-shattering response among listeners. Unlike most albums, this soundtrack comprises 11 songs, which have been the highlight of the film’s marketing as Aashiqui (1990) was best known for Nadeem-Shravan’s music. However, it also received criticism for apparently borrowing its plot from the South Korean hit, The Chaser (2008). It was the second movie in the film franchise. The Emraan Hashmi-Jacqueline Fernandez starrer was reported to be one of the biggest grossers of 2011. Reports claim the film is not a sequel or prequel to Aashiqui, even though its poster is similar to that of the 1990 hit. She, being the honest girlfriend, then helps him revive his career, and thus, their relationship. While she goes on to become a successful singer, he loses his career and then his mind.
